The Konekt Orange branch – the newest and 19th in NSW – may be new in town but as its tireless team of two aren’t new to the Central West region.
The branch has quickly gone from strength to strength. This strategy of staf ng a new branch with consultants with prior local knowledge and connections follows Konekt’s Local Knowledge, National Strength mission statement and has proven highly effective.
How effective? In just over a year, our Orange branch has achieved impressive results, including upholding return- to-work rates of 100% for both Same and New Employer Return to Work, which is above the national average of 96% for Same Employer and 43% for New Employer. The bene ts of local knowledge aside, this achievement is also testament to the hard work of the branch’s Managing Consultant Nick Pellinkhof and Senior Consultant Xanthe McLean who are dedicated to nurturing strong relationships with the Central West community.
Nick, an Exercise Physiologist, fell in love with the Central West whilst completing a Bachelor of Exercise Science and a Masters of Clinical Exercise Physiology at Bathurst University, just 55km down the Mitchell Highway from Orange. For Nick whose track record of achieving high and sustainable return to work outcomes had led to his previous role in the Parramatta of ce assisting new consultants to develop their skills in medical-evidence backed, person-centred approach claim execution – relocating to Orange was returning to a region he loves.
Since completing her Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) in 2004 at the University of Sydney, Xanthe has gained extensive clinical experience in public hospitals, including mental health wards and numerous private practices, before moving to the occupational rehabilitation industry. Like Nick, Xanthe had previously lived in the Central West when she worked in a clinical capacity in Orange, which has proven extremely beneficial in building working relationships with the branch’s local treating parties.
On a day to day basis, the Orange branch services a region of 250km radius by providing preventative services such as training in ergonomics, manual handling, ergonomic and pre-employment assessments, and RTW services for injured workers who are returning to their employer or job detached.
In their short time in Orange, Nick and Xanthe have grown the branch by taking a proactive approach to establishing new relationships and nurturing existing alliances with local employers and treating parties. Their popular information evenings on the benefits of early intervention, developing handy ‘cheat sheets’ to help streamline the referral process, and tailoring assessments specific to clients’ needs are helping them further understand the needs of the community. In the year ahead, they’re looking forward to building on their relationships with local doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists, and exercise physiologists and employers to fine tune their presentations and information materials. And in addition to their local focus, Konekt’s Orange team will continue to share the Konekt Australia vision of Injury Free Workplaces by 2025.
