A Vocational Assessment is a structured process used to identify suitable alternative employment options for a worker following an injury. It considers the worker’s physical, psychological and cognitive capacity, alongside their values, experience, skills and interests, to help identify realistic and meaningful vocational options.
Vocational Assessments recognise that while a worker may not be able to return to their pre‑injury role, this does not mean they are unable to return to work.
Vocational Assessments are completed by a qualified rehabilitation counsellor, social worker, occupational therapist or psychologist with expertise in vocational rehabilitation and workforce reintegration.
The assessment may be conducted face-to-face, or via telephone or videoconferencing, depending on the worker’s circumstances and needs.
