What is a Workplace Assessment?

A Workplace Assessment is a detailed, on‑site review of the skills and demands a worker is required to perform as part of their role. We observe physical, environmental and ergonomic demands across the workplace and the worker’s duties. Where an injury is psychological in nature, the assessment is adapted to evaluate the cognitive demands of the role and work environment.

Who conducts the assessment?

All assessments are completed by a registered allied health professional with the right expertise for the injury type:

  • Physical injuries: Exercise physiologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, osteopath, or alternate allied health professional with specific expertise
  • Psychological injuries: Registered psychologist, rehabilitation counsellor, or alternate allied health professional with specific expertise

How the assessment works

  • Conducted at the worksite with the worker and their manager
  • Covers all areas where duties are performed
  • Where access is restricted, photos or videos may be used to demonstrate tasks
  • If an on‑site visit is not appropriate, the assessment may be completed at an external venue
  • Typically takes around one hour, depending on the size of the workplace and the complexity of duties

Why it matters

The purpose of a Workplace Assessment is to design a Recover at Work Plan that aligns with a worker’s functional capacity, as outlined in their Certificate of Capacity and the recommendations of their treating team.

Konekt works in collaboration with medical providers to ensure the plan is safe, practical and progresses in line with the worker’s recovery pathway.
