WHAT WE DO

Employment-related assessment and counselling

For this service, participants would need existing approved funding under Therapeutic Supports – Finding and Keeping a Job (Capacity Building).

What is employment-related counselling?

Employment-related counselling is tailored specifically for participants who want to move towards being ready to step into work or study but require professional assistance first.

It is flexible and can include the provision of professional support to manage psychosocial difficulties, career-type counselling to explore identified vocational pathways, or adjusting to working life.

How we can help

Our registered psychologists, social workers, and rehabilitation counsellors provide a tailored comprehensive assessment and report, followed by individual counselling to help participants reach their employment goals.

Assessment

  • We use a range of standardised scales at the initial assessment to understand the participants health and disability, goals, vocational interests, education, qualifications, and work experience.
  • Besides using health and disability scales and vocational interest inventories, the assessment can include a formal intelligence assessment by a psychologist to determine cognitive strengths, challenges, and an overall IQ score.
  • We advise on any medical and mental health supports or accommodations that may be needed in a future role.
  • Appealing and appropriate career pathways are recommended for you.
  • Following the assessment and detailed report, counselling sessions are provided to help you move toward the identified employment pathway goals.

Our counselling sessions are helpful for

  • Moving towards being ready to step into work or study
  • Improving motivation
  • Managing mental health (if needed) and learning coping skills
  • Learning effective interpersonal skills for working with others, improving relationships and communication
  • Addressing psychosocial difficulties in personal life
  • Empowering participants in employment preparation including tailoring a resume, job seeking advice, interview preparation, school leaver support, and helping to transition from school to further education
